I need some help. I am working on a music video lesson plan and am having no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We had the kids do the finance behind music videos. They had to cost it out. You guessed it, I'm a math teacher.

You can have your students pick a popular song (or an older one that they wouldn't have necessarily have seen the video on MTV yet) and then work on a storyboard for it. You have them break the song up into it's components and start dissecting it and then discuss how they can demonstrate it visually.

I have a journal/homework assignment where the students watch MTV or VH1 or CMT and rate a music video (you could watch several and compare and contrast). The focus can be anything really, but I have them look at the messages that the video sends about body image, topic, behavior, etc.

I start the lesson out with the first "theatrical" video created - Michael Jackson's Thriller. We study the video, looking at race, gender, violence, sex, and materialsim. Where there is any, the students take note. We also take a look at parts of the "making of Thriller". It goes into the importance of choreography, computers, and make-up.
We discuss the music, as well. Noting that Thriller is still the best selling album of all time. |

I use music to teach about history all the time. What is your subject and topic?
