Hi Everyone! I am from Canada and I am thinking of teaching in the states. I was wondering if you like your profession, if the pay is bad, and is it true that teachers are not being recognized for its profession? I am planning to go down there with my bf who is an American. Also, I just love it down there. I was wondering if any of you have any advice or suggestion. Thanks!

The pay depends on where you are teaching. Salaries in the Northeast are pretty good. I make a very good living in New York.
Here, I feel as if teaching is treated as a true profession. I guess it really boils down to the community you serve. Most of my students come from homes with hard-working parents that have a vested interest in the academic success for their children. I get a lot of support from the parents. This makes me feel needed and valued. |

I have taught in 3 different parts of the U.S. My husband is in the army. I found each position to pay well compared to the average job in the area.
