how did I miss this quote? Quote:
lack of regard to Authority figures - I haven't refused any directive from a boss. I have many times said that I realize education is political and telling the boss no isn't a good way to win favors. Overinflated sense of self - CONFIDENCE. Just like in dating. I walk into a bar and I act like I'm the best looking guy in the room and people respond to me like I'm the most handsome guy in the room, whether or not that is reality. I go into my classroom like I am the best teacher at the school and people respond like I am. Confidence, not overinflated sense of self. Very close, I'll admit, but off the mark. fixation on one IEP - my best example of a stupid accom. is the 'must provide pen and paper' I have plenty of nitpicks, but I can handle preferential seating issues I have vs an accomodation that is proof that regular ed teachers are being held to an unfair situation that they didn't even have a say in. I really wonder if the SPED teacher actually had to follow the accoms, if she would have put the pen/paper one in the IEP. My educated guess is NO strong need to be in control of his environment - what's wrong with this. I'd rather be PROactive than REactive. Be the alpha of the group and you reduce problems ....as a student teacher - OMFG - you aren't even a real teacher yet? you're critiquing before you even have a degree in education BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA H why don't you come register when you graduate kiddo, get a real job and see how well those liberal university theories actually work in the real world. Bwhahahahaha ps - I don't live in NO and never did.

IEP's are supposed to be centered around the child's individual needs, if a school can't meet the needs the child should be sent out of district. If you don't have enough seats in your front row then the child should be put in another class. Come on people, all I hear is negative. Not one of you has a creative idea or is the slightest bit excited about writing an IEP that is less genralized and more individualized?

I appreciate your enthusiam, but if I was to hazard a guess, you don't sound like you've ever been burned by an administrator IEP wise. In some schools admin sets up an "inclusion" room that is basically a giant understaffed resource room. Moving a kid to a different classroom is not considered an option. Providing sped support is not considered an option. Providing behavioral support is not considered an option. Funneling any kind of resource your way is not an option. Basically, they put all of the kids who they don't think can pass high stakes tests or behave in an appropriate manner in one room. Then each teacher in the grade level takes turns being the inclusion teacher. Its a thoroughly horrible experience, but you only have to do it once every five years or so. The problem is, its not good for the kids and its hell for the person stuck teaching the inclusion class. You mentioned some very good methods for providing education, but in some schools admin will not allow those ideas to become reality. We would all like to think that every person in school admin is there because they care about kids, and I'm sure most of them do, but we have to face the fact that some admin care more about being in charge/looking good than with finding real solutions to problems. |

Can someone please help me understand what "extended time" means on an IEP...I do not think it means unlimited time but the Sp. Ed teacher at my school told me that was what it meant. I teach at a high school and if it takes the students in my class 30 min (tops) to finish a quiz and I give a Sp Ed student 90 min, isn't that extended time?? Any thoughts would be appreciated; especially as they pertain to the law.
Thanks! |

Good think for you, you don't teach in NYS. You wouldn't have a job with an attitude like that.

why, does NYC not worry about the rest of the class being slowed down for the one kid who insists on taking a 3 class periods to take a 30 minute quiz?
so let me get this straight, a kid who is already behind, is supposed to catch up by taking 1.5 x's the time on every assignment? or more realistically, we're supposed to slow everyone else down for the one
