get in touch with Stuteacher23, he's going to have to redo his internship. He can give you 'what not to do pointers'

I nominate Chocolate_New_Orleans. By far the wisest teacher I have come across on this website. Why?

1. He's old school
2. No happy go lucky BS theories
3. Doesnt pretend children are innocent angels that need 24/7 catering
4. Crushes newer teachers hopes and fantasies or recreating 'Dangerous Minds'
5. Will most likely be a 35 year veteran, outlasting 90% of the hippie teachers on this site.

Screw it, I'd nominate him Time's Man of the Year.

TIPS FOR YOU ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE CHOCOLATE_NEW_ORLEANS:
-When you meet someone like Chocolate_New_Orleans, don't let the person intimidate you.
-Make them shut-up as fast as you can
-Don't act like a jerk like he does
-AND MOST OF ALL, if he pisses you off, piss him off and get on his nerves and be a ****************ing jerk right back!

THAT'S ALL THE TIPS I HAVE FOR PEOPLE LIKE CHOC.

Default standards

Be friendly, don't be a friend.
Define clear expectations and hold to them.
Treat all students equitably, even if/when they are a pain in the arse.
Over-preparedness is a good thing.
Ask opinions and moderate with equity, even when you don't agree.
Refrain from sharing your personal views and present a fair argument.
Model decorum and good behavior.
Smile often.
Don't let anything effect your teaching. Students behavior should in no way hamper your teaching. Let them know this.
...
...
The list goes on.... Most of it you should already know. You have a good age-group. Most of them want to do well, encourage them in their efforts. No child is a lost cause just because you can't reach them. Use your resources to find people to help you if you get stuck.

Good luck and have fun.

Red face Tips

I just finished student teaching in the fourth grade. I have also just been hired to teach fourth grade. Make sure on the first day you let them know you are in charge. Be nice and smile but you are the boss. This is a great age group! I used a great deal of hands-on-learning. They love technology. Incorporate Webquest, interactive games, united streaming.com as often as possible.
Good luck!

Talking Student Teaching Tips

Before you solo teach:
1. List the students who are pulled out during class (when and where).
2. List the procedures of planning the homework assignments (where to find materials).
3. List all tests that are given on a weekly basis (where are materials).
4. List all other special classes such as music and library.
5. Ask the office for copies of all announcements given to the master teacher. When school activities are planned, the teacher is informed through his/her box. These handouts have all the information that you need about events.
6. Ask about the procedures for sending kids to the office.

All teachers must read Alfie Kohn's book's and articles. Visit his website www.alfiekohn.org. Please report back and discuss.

Wink student teacher

Hi! Just finished my second week in student teaching. I guess every classroom is different as are the students. Another thing is that it depends on your coop teacher too. I like it but sometimes I feel like a gopher for the coop teacher. So it depends on the coop. Good luck. Its not bad at all. The kids are a blast. I am in the 4th grade right now and will be in 2nd grade in the second placement.
