I am a student teacher in Early Childhood and I am very interested in how to use computers in a K - 3 classroom not as a reward and for free time but actually as part of the curriculum. If anyone has any ideas or would like to tellme how they use them that would be great.

http://www.opencourtresources.com has powerpoints that go with every unit in the Open Court Reading program.

If you're using Open Court, you don't want to miss the resources on the Curriculum Companion web site. It includes hundreds of PowerPoint presentations, graphic organizers, Unit openers, web links, and lots of multimedia technology tutorials is you want to learn software tools.

I am currently student teaching in a second grade classroom and have found websites to be a great resource. We have a computer station when we rotate through centers so each child has approxamitely 10 minutes to work. There are SO many links within the site (listed below) that I haven't even had a chance to fully explore yet, but I've used a lot for math (addition/subtraction, other random stuff) and language arts (under the reading sub-section). Some of them are not as good as the others, but there are some GREAT skill builder sites. It will take a while to go through them, but its worth it - they love it! Definitely check it all out.

Another one that I've just discovered that has leveled reading skill builders (letter-sound correspondance, alphabet, fact vs. fantasy, sentence order, synonyms, antonyms, following 3 step directions, spelling)
is:

I just tried the synonym game today and they LOVED it.
