I am doing a poll about teachers and instant messaging for an article in my school paper. I need information very soon, and I appreciate any help. I have a few easy questions to ask:

Do you, as a current or past teacher, use Aol Instant Messager or any other Instant messaging program?

If yes, do you use it for recreational purposes or for educational purposes?
And, how often do you use it? Once a day? Once a week? Once a month?

Also, if you have the time, I would like to know what grade you teach and which instant messaging program you use.

Thank you for your time!

You should limit your poll to current teachers. My father didn't use IM because he last taught in 1975.

It's a student....give him a break and quit reading into things...no wonder you aggravate people on here!

My post is nearly a month old, so it appears that you are simply hunting down my posts looking for something to complain about.

Not really....I very seldom get time to look on here and I was simple going back over the posts that I haven't read....It's just that many of your posts are funny!! I just don't think that many of "us teachers" have the time to spend on here like you do.

Fortunately, my students are working on individual projects this week and I have a little extra time during the day to do research and read posts like this.....even though I don't believe I should spend much time on here!!

Very seldom, maybe one or two weeks of the year, I get "breaks" and can enjoy trying to find new and creative ideas that will help keep my students attention. Yesterday just happened to be the beginning to one of them!

So this is the new angle.

If that is what you want to call it.

Most of my teaching requires me to be on my feet moving around the classroom at all times. Very seldom do I actually get to sit behind my desk. In fact, the only time I am able to do so is when the students are working on "large individual projects." This is one of about three times a year that they do.

I use this time to plan out the coming weeks ahead and get caught up on paperwork. So I guess unlike you, I don't get much time on the computer!!

I can't believe you still didn't asnwer that student's question! I am only a student planning on getting into teaching, so I can't. But come on! After all that verbal sparring, can't you just say two words on whether you use instatnt messaging or not? Is this how you treat the kids in your classrooms - ignore them?

Sheeez, the survey was asked in August! I doubt the original poster is even here anymore.
