I understand you need a score of 590 to pass the Praxis II Business Education Test 0100. Does anyone know how many correct questions you need to answer? I think there are 120 questions on the computer test. HAs anyone taken this test? What did you think?

I took the test a little over a year ago and passed it the first time. I remember there being 200 questions on the test (I think). They were a WIDE variety of questions from professional organizations to basic terminology.

Although I had to have a 560 to pass the test (mississippi). I just looked at my Score Report hoping to see how many questions were on the test, but it does not show that. Sorry!

It's been at least five years since I took the test, but I do remember that with the multiple choice questions, always pick the answer that is hands on, discovery learning, cooperative groups, or anything like that ( I think there were 150). With the essay questions, just remember to write a lot and add technology to your lesson whatever question they ask. As long as you make it more meaningful and interesting than the old direct instruction, you'll do fine on the test.

I hope this is helpful!

You mean the study guide from ETS for the 0100 test?

I heard that it was not so great for prepping. What do you think?

My exam is in November.

No I have not taken the test.
I have the exact question you have and no one, not even ETS seems to be able to answer it. They do ask 120 questions and in my state, CT, you need a 620 but no one can tell me what percentage of correct answers that is. I just need an approximation.

See page 8 of this report. At least it will tell you what the average score of previous test takers was. That might give you an idea of how difficult the test is compared to what your state requires.

http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/PRAXIS/pdf/09706PRAXIS.pdf

I figure if the average is 610 - 690, surely I can get the 540 required by my state.

Just wanted to let anyone know who montiors this thread that i took the PRaxis II on November 19th 2005 and i feel that anyone who holds a business degree should be able to pass this test.

in other conversations people have mentioned that the official study guide sold by ETS is not worth reviewing but i found at least 3 questions that were identical between the practice test and the real thing.

I am not sure of my score but i am fairly confident that i got above a 580 which is the score needed in NJ. Now if i can just find a job teaching computers or business....

I too feel confident that I made my 560. There was one identical question from the practice test that was on my Praxis exam, plus several almost identical questions.

Still waiting on the results, though...

get the guide from ETS. It may not be the "BEST" guide to help study for it, but it does have some great thinking questions that if answered can help with the test.

It will give you a good outline of what you need to know and be familiar with for the test.

Somethings I have never encountered before so it is nice to have the guide.
I am scheduled to take the test in April 2006.

I am also scheduled to take the test in April. The outline found in the ETS Study Guide is quite comprehensive. If anyone wants to work on the outline and exchange notes/info through e-mail maybe it would be helpful to set up a study group.

on http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/PRAXIS/pdf/09706PRAXIS.pdf it listed the possible score range for the busn ed test as 250 - 990. divide your state's required score by 990 and you should get roughly a percentage of how many you need to answer correctly. Or if you divided 990 by 120 you'll find that each question is worth appx 8.25 points. Hope this helps.

Hi Everyone -

I just took (and passed!) the Business Education exam. I highly recommend getting the official booklet as so many people have said here ($25 from ETS - maybe cheaper at your local bookseller). Also, if you are currently teaching in a high school, just get a basic business book and go right through it and make flashcards of the major sections that correspond to the outline provided in the ETS book. VERY helpful. In my opinion, the ETS practice test is helpful, but not by itself. The outline pretty much hands the test to you on a tray.

I took the ETS practice ice cold, failed it miserably, did the flashcard thing in one night, and felt pretty damn good after that. All the stuff I learned in college came back pretty fast. I teach Algebra 1 and 2 (college undergrad was business, so that's where I'm getting certified) so aside from the appreciation/depreciation questions and commission questions, I couldn't remember a darn thing prior to doing flashcards.

The three textbooks I would borrow from your school if you can:
1. Business (the most basic overall thing)
2. Accounting (lots of questions on basic inventory, accounts receivable, income statements, etc. Know your accounting cycle)
3. Keyboarding - I say this just to brush up on things like basic documents: the parts of a letter, the parts of a resume, etc.

Finally, the one thing that was asked a lot (relatively speaking) but isn't really covered in depth in the study materials was insurance. The ETS guide says "know insurance" and nothing else. I had 4 questions on it and just totally winged it. At least know the basic types of insurance: term, life, etc.
When I walked out of the test room, the other business person and I were yelling "WHat was up with all of those insurance questions?!"

Know the basics of the Fed. You will definitely be asked about the effects of inflation/deflation and money supply, or what the Fed can do to help.

I had no identical question from the practice test but I felt the study guide prepares you for the type of questions you'll be asked. Definitely read through the answers on why and why not something is right/wrong.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I took the Bus Ed 0100 Praxis test in September of 2006. I have my undergrad and master's in Business Ed but haven't been in the classroom for 20 years. I had to take the Praxis to get recertified. I did not think that the Praxis contained hard core business questions. You need a basic understanding of business, banking, monetary system, insurance, government, accounting, office practices, software, hardware, technology issues, and marketing. I could not tell you where to get all this information in once place. However, none of the questions asked were highly specialized questions. They were fairly general. If you are a well informed consumer, you should do fine.

I just got my results from the Praxis Business Ed 0100 - I scored 710 and needed 600 to pass in Oregon, phew. I missed 20 of the 120 questions, this kind of info may help folks figure out what they need to get to pass.

I am not a business major, only had a couple of Econ classes in undergrad. I did study high school business texts and used the ETS practice book. I highly recommend both, the ETS book really does help lay out what will be on the test and some of the questions are repeated on the test.

I also found the suggestions from the 12/19/2006 post here very helpful - thanks!

There were 24 questions on the test about teaching business education, the professional aspect of the whole thing. This kind of info is not covered in high school texts, so it would be good to review some kind of business ed journal or websites to get that kind of information.

Good luck everyone - I seriously thought I tanked the thing the morning I took it, I am very relieved I don't have to do it again!

Just took the exam yesterday. The test prep from ETS seemed a little easier than the test itself. There weren't many calculations at all on my test, although all the test prep I used had calculation of payroll and interest, neither was on my test and I sort of expected it would be. I do think I passed, however. I did see some identical questions on the test that were on the test prep materials.

I have been out of college for ohhhhh...almost 10 years. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 5 and decided I wanted to teach. I have studied both the ets books questions and am freaking out!!! I hold a minor in Accounting and my major is in Business Management. Everyone says oh, if you passed the practice tests, I'm sure you'll do fine. But I want to hear from those who have sat for the test. I "passed" both practice tests, but have that uneasy feeling that those are easier than the actual. Can anyone give me some advice/guidance on content? I must have 100 pages of notes in addition to the 2 practice tests. I take the test in 2 weeks. Thanks in advance, stacy706

Don't sweat it - A week or so before the exam last spring (2007), I used the ETS book, briefly looking up any subject that I did not immediately get right on the practice questions (don't waste time studying what you already know!) - and got a 740 on the Business Praxis. I'm going to need a 690 for the Marketing Praxis though... I am lateral entry teaching candidate, and with BS Bus. Econ. from 1984. Needed 580 here in NC. 120 questions, no essays. Surprising amount of questions regarding general education and development, classes I haven't had yet. I made educated guesses on more than a few. You'll be fine.

Well, I took my test yesterday....Very interesting. Everyone wants to know how I did and to be honest..I have noooo idea. It was much more "wordy" than I anticipated. I found that answering some of the questions that I could easily narrow it down to 2 answers (out of 5) and then I just made an educated guess. Everyone says "I'm sure you did fine", however, I walked out wondering how good fine would be. I'll know in about 4 weeks and then I suppose I'll start over if I didn't pass. I can't worry about it anymore for a while anyway. I did think that the ETS study guide was helpful but much easier than the test.

I took the Praxis II and found that studying the exit information for business majors was more beneficial than anything. There are questions on the test that deal with various organizations and what they do. There are some business law questions, tax questions, etc. I think if I had not had the exit information I would not have passed. Do as much reviewing as possible.

I took the test this past Saturday. I believe you need about 78 correct questions out of 120 to pass for NJ. Hopefully I passed. I didn't find it that difficult. I got many questions that were never really reviewed in the prep book though. I didn't find the book that helpful. I'm sure I answered many questions correctly just because I knew the answer. Not a fan of the prep book.

In order to teach Computer Applications, you need Business Education certification.
In the state I am in (NC), Computer Apps falls under Business Ed. in Career Technical Education.
You need to look at CTE for your state. And, I wouldn't be too picky, if you do pass the
Business Ed. exam, you might not be able to teach Computer Apps anyway depending on who is
currently teaching the courses at the school. With a Business Ed. certification, at least in NC,
you could be teaching anything from Career Management to Digital Communication Systems, and maybe
Computer Apps, etc.- if you are lucky.

On the one I took back in August, there were not many accounting questions, and I expected a good amount of calculations, but there were few. I did see a good deal of insurance questions. If you study the test prep materials, you should be fine. I studied very, very minimally and passed with flying colors. The test was broken down as follows: United States Economic Systems, Money Management, Business and its Environment, Professional Business Education (I winged this one!), Processing Information, Office Procedures and Management, Communications and Employability Skills, and Accounting and Marketing.

The business education test is somewhat common sense. If you have worked retail, received a loan, bought insurance, used microsoft office or works (excel, word, powerpoint, and access), applied for a job, and manage a household, you have all of the knowledge needed to be successful on test (0100). Buy a practice test (It usually break down the types of question on the test, especially if it's the ETS Book) then work on only the areas you did not get correct...that's my advice. Somef the study guie questiona may appear on the test even if they are re-worded....

Some things may need tweeking like:

interest calculations (simple and compound)
assets and profits
database (column, row, operators, fields)
spreadsheets formulas (PEMDAS= (),equations, X, /, +, -) =Sum(X..X), =Average(X..X), etc...
block style business letter
classroom procedures

I'm so glad I stumped into all of you in here. I'm one like you all; I've teaching Computer Apps for 5yrs. I'm going into my 6th year and now I have to take the Praxis II exam. Man, why won't they leave teachers alone? Isn't it enough that we went to college? Isn't it enough that some of us teach what we teach for 5+years? It's ridiculous if you ask me.

I can't wait to take this test and pass it and get it over with. Thanks for all of your comments. It really does bring a peace of mind and comfort to know that there are so many out there just like me who are struggling with the same thing and look at how we come together to help one another. Wow, that is really hard to come around nowadays, so thank you for all of your thoughts.
