My third grade class will be studying geography and
landforms this year, so I would like them to participate in
a Postcard Exchange Project the 2009-2010 school year
I am looking for k-5 teachers from 49 states and DC (excluding FL) who
would be willing to write and mail 50 postcards. At the end
of the project, you should receive 50 different postcards
with information about each state (and DC).
Some suggestions to help with time and cost: -Make a
template on your computer, type out the information you
want to include, print it out and glue to the back each
postcard. (This will save you time if you don’t want to
hand write 50 postcards) -Ask parents for donations of
state postcards and/or stamps (I believe postcard stamps
are $.0.28=$14.00 total) -See if your local government
office, AAA, or a travel agency will donate postcards for
your classroom project.
-The postcards need to represent your state with pictures
and/or the state name.
-To correlate with our standards, please include physical
features, natural and/or man-made landmarks, and the
climate/vegetation of your state as well as any other
interesting information.
Please email me at FLpostcardexchange@gmail.com if you are
seriously interested in participating in, committing to,
and completing this project.
I will send out a master list to each participant once I
receive all 50. Send me an email at
FLpostcardexchange@gmail.com with the following info
1. Your name (First and last) 2. Your grade level 3. Your
school name 4. Your school address 5. Your email address
Target starting date (depends on how long it takes to get
all the participants): The end of September. It will go
through April or May.
How it will work: As soon as all the spots are filled, I
will send out a list that contains all the states, names
and addresses. When you receive the list, you will notice
that all the addresses are in alphabetical order by state.
You will begin with the state immediately BELOW yours and
send 6 (tentative on when we actually start) post cards per
month (8 in the last month.)
For example, I am from Florida, so the first 6 postcards I
will send at out (on the decided date-TBA) will be to
Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa.
I think the students will really enjoy this project. I make
a bulletin board with a large map and tack the postcards up
with string leading to each state. It stays up all year.
We still need many states, so I hope to hear from you soon!!!
