Hi!

I am new to this forum. I have been out of school for about eight years and still have not had my first real full time teaching job. Can anyone tell me if portfolios are still used in interviews. Most of my portfolio I believe would be considered out dated since I have not done any teaching other than substituting in that time. I was thinking about how I can use my portfolio to show my continued growth as an educator. Do you think it is okay to use regular work experience references. I have not subbed for almost two years so any of my teaching references are outdated. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Portfolios are still a big part of the interview process. As an administrator, it's really the only way to assess how well a teacher plans.

As far as references, one or two outside references are O.K. But, you still need some core references.

If I was looking at a canidate such as yourself, I would want to be reassured as to why you never landed that job. If you're in a competitive field of education, that is already answered for the interviewer.

Good Luck! :)
