I did this on my own email, and received this to my account...therefore your kids might know you are searching for them!!
This is a one-time message from http://com.lullar.com.
Someone entered ************@hotmail.com into Lullar Com to search for your online profiles.
Lullar Com allows you to search for anyone across all the social networking sites.

If you do a closed Google search you can get the same results without their knowledge. In google, type the email in quotations. Ex. "name@email.com"

By looking at my daughter's profile of her accounts on social networks while she was in high school, I forced her to make her profiles private. She did it to keep me out, but the result was that only her friends can see it and it was not public. She was annoyed at me, but it worked. Nothing wrong with having a child annoyed if it makes him/her safer. So there is nothing wrong with them getting an e-mail that shows that someone is doing a search. ...better you than a stranger...

so what, quit being so concerned with justifying it to your kids and act like a parent. If they have a problem with me trying to actively parent.... TOUGH.
FB and Myspace accounts are a safety concern and if your kids have one, you, as parents need to know about it.
too many parents feel they have to justify their parenting choices to their kids who are not yet old enough/wise enough to realize their decisions are stupid.
Dillan Kleibold's parents didn't want to be nosey either, in their son's life and let his bedroom be "his" private property that they weren't allowed to enter. Guess where that led.

your kids appreciate it too, now they can continue to enjoy un-monitored internet access.
You are proof, that just because you can screw someone without a condom, it doesn't automatically make you a good parent.
just continue to close your eyes and stick your head in the sand and HOPE nothing bad happens to your kids online. Personally, I prefer the more proactive approach to parenting...
