GreenBird has introduced a new “green” product. It is a biodegradable 100% recycled paper bird house (http://www.greenbirdhouse.com). It is made from 3-plys of recycled paper, designed to last one nesting season and then added to a compost bin. We designed it to provide an education vehicle for teachers, youth groups and scouts. The house promotes education related to birds, bird habitat change, recycling, climate change and local ecosystem support. Our local schools environmental director is working with us to develop several lesson plans around “No child left inside.” Please visit our site if you are interested in integrating these project into next year's lessons.

I absolutely love these birdhouses! I teach 3rd grade and was able to use them with my students as a part of our life cycles science unit. We discussed the life cycle of birds, their habitats, etc. The great thing about these houses is that you can have the students personalize them by using different types of media. (I believe GreenBird will even print the houses with a school logo) Since we wanted to keep them ecofriendly, we decided to purchase some of the milk paint that GreenBird sells. They came out great and the kids had a blast! This is a much better project than the old standby of peanut butter and birdseed! Too many kids are allergic to the peanut butter!
Since using them in my classroom, I have started also putting them up in my backyard. I love that they are only good for one nesting season. All of my wood birdhouses get filthy dirty from use year after year. Since these can be thrown into my compost pile after the season is over, I feel like I am doing something good for the environment AND for the birds!
I would HIGHLY recommend these houses!
