Here is my dilema. I teach World History (10th grade), US History (8 and 11), NM History (7) and Government/Economics (9) in a small rural high school in New Mexico. For the most part, these kids are wonderful and classes are small (2-9 students in class with one being 14 students but, unfortunately we have one challenging group of 9th graders and I have them for Government and Economics. Now we are doing economics, the one subject that I struggle with. I have the hardest time coming up with activities as the best I usually can do is lecture and do worksheets. I am tired of it and they are sure as heck tired of it. Lecturing to them is very unenjoyable as it is as they really can not concentrate. I am at my witts end with these guys. Quite honestly, I do not blame them because it is hard to get excited about Economics as it is. I need ideas. I need hands on activities that do not take a lot of explaining because the explaining does little good. I do not like to use the term busy work but I need to keep these guys busy. The good news is they all have laptop computers and we have interactive white boards in the classrooms. I need help from an experienced economics teacher. Additionally, I have no prep period and I am taking 6 credits online for my Master's. If there is anybody out there who can help, I would appreciate it. dmderosa2k@aol.com

you have to look at economics from an authentic standpoint.. how are the kids involved?

please let me what you need to teach them specifically and i'd be glad to help you out. economics is one of my favorite classes to teach. it's not as boring as you make it out to be. it's real life and you'll have to teach that way to get to them.

what are you teaching them?
micro, macro, personal finance, global economics? i have plenty of ideas/lessons for all of them.
