I am curious to know if anyone has ever planned a field day for high school students? If so, what type activities did you do? I am thinking about having a field day to celebrate the end of the year for all that the students have accomplished.

Well...I do believe that my school has something of a field day. It's mainly just full of games and activities...I think there's a bounce house or two, but I'm not sure. I've never experienced it myself, you see. But I've heard about it.

My children's school has a Field Day associated with Clean-up Day. In our small town, each class, K-12, is assigned an area of town to clean up. (Clean-up day is a big deal in early May in Interior Alaska since when the snow melts, a winter's worth of trash is revealed.) After clean-up in the morning, there is a community-wide picnic and then a field day with different activities such as a big softball game and, the most popular, a huge water balloon fight (with rules and signed permission slips). Many community members stay for the afternoon of fun.

Some ideas:
Tug of war.
Truck push (students get on teams and see which team can push a truck to the goal the fastest by the end of the day)
Water activities are always fun. A water relay for example. Students get on a team, stand in a line and try to move water from a large tub of water in front of them to a large tub behind them using a bucket. The catch: they have to pass the bucket backwards down the line over their heads, and the bucket is full of holes!
Make sure the ladies know to dress appropriately.

We do whats called Survivor day where the school is slpit into teams, and the days is dedicated to effective team skills. This gives the students an opportunity to get to know names, and becomes a good attachment activity at the beginning of the year.

Hi
I had a field trip for my advanced high school art class. I teach ceramics and I got with a professor at a local university and he invited us to spend a few hours with him in his studio and he had enough wheels that all of the students got to throw a pot at the same time. We ate lunch in the commons and visited the student art show there on campus. It was a great day.
