need advice

Hi everyone!! I'm a new member here, I'd like to commend you on a great site!!!! I'd like some information on O.D.D. My 5yo gifted son is currently in the process of being diagnosed! After 5years its almost a releif to have a 'label' for his behaviour!!!!! Any advice and info greatly appreciated!!

Not an expert on disorders, but I would advise you to stay on top of the school system. You will have to basically be an advocate for your son. Be sure to get an IEP ,(individual education plan) and make sure all of his teachers are aware that it is in his file. (sorry to admit, but sometimes we teachers are very busy, and do not look at these files first thing in a new year) Do not let anybody intimidate you. They (the IEP team) will give you info and explain your rights. Do not hesitate to ask questions. Trust me, I have been a part of the team, you will not seem 'dumb' if you ask. Truthfully, you will sound much more intelligent and involved if you make them explain everything that you are unsure of. Good luck- as they say- knowing is half the battle
