The US is not a bilingual country. The vast majority of Americans do not speak Spanish at all. What's been happening is that the big corporations have been encouraging illegal immigrants who mostly come from Spanish-speaking countries and hiring them as cheap labor. Then they bring their families over and stay. Many make no effort to assimilate or learn English because they can always find someone who speaks their language. It's easier to get someone to translate for you than to make the effort to learn another language. This is especially true for adults who have managed to convince themselves that it's impossible to learn a new language.

Are you a teacher?? You sound ignorant. Your remarks are racist. Why do you have so much hatred toward other people? Why don't you evaluate yourself? If you don't get the job, don't blame other people. If you can't speak the (Spanish) language, don't blame them. If you don't have the life you want, don't blame others.
My parents came to this country as immigrants. I was born here. Yes, I am bilingual teacher. Yes, I speak both languages fluently. I graduated from a prestigious college. I have degrees. No, I'm not an exception. There are MANY non English speakers in the United States. They deserve to be here. We should respect each other's culture and language.
If YOU can't adapt to the changes, don't blame others. Open your eyes, stop living in the past, and for everyone's sake stop hating!
:) I hope to teach all my students Spanish, English and MANY MORE LANGUAGES!

What are you so uptight about?! I didn't get hate at all from the first person. I too am frustrated that I can't find someone who speaks english when I need assistance. There's nothing wrong with the vast amount of cultures coming here....but they are coming here, to us, to an english speaking country. Learn a little english!! My mother came from Norway as a young woman, couldn't speak a lick of english...she learned. She took us to Norway when we were younger to discover our roots, we learned Norwegian.
Why are there sooo many excuses that the spanish language cultures can not/desire not to learn some basic english!?! Yet they want to reap all the benefits of an english language government?!?! Please!!!

I'm not from the us. I'm from Canada, but in my school their are kids comeing to our class who can't speak english and so while im trying to learn this kid is asking a kid in our class who speaks their language to translate for them! It is so distracting to try to listen to the teacher while right behind you a conversation in a strange language you don't know is going on!
