Ok.. i just started my first year teaching and i have no idea what i'm doing. I am doing special education at an elementary school in texas. I'm so lost. how do i teach kids to pass at their grade level if they can't even read at their grade level?
I went through an alternate program and they did not teach us a thing! How do i teach a 4th or 5th grader how to do the reading process if they read at a 2nd or 3rd grade level? How do i teach?? Reading and ELA was not my strongest subjects. I need help on how to do lesson plans. where do i start? Any WEBSITES out there that show me how to teach.. something! what did i get myself into? i know i wanted to do this but didn't know how hard it would be. Since i'm a new teacher i have no manipulatives no workbooks. I have to follow their grade level teachers lesson plan but they are not at their level. AHH i'mm stuck!
I cried the week before school began and the first week. HELP HELP HELP...
Lost in TX..

get out of education, it is not for you. This should come like second nature to you and it apparently isn't. Get out now before you harm these poor kids beyond repair
Sometimes I am tired of my present work and I want to relieve the stresses and strains from work, so I would like to ask is there any good idea or tips on making me more happier or feel relaxed? I oftern go to the dance hall to sing and dance or play sports on weekends, but that is not enough, always doing the same thing is boring. Recenty, I found on the internet that learning a new skill during spare time is a good idea, it can make us more intellectual and make more friends. Such as, online schools (http://www.schoolsworldwide.org) and career builder (http://www.aboutcareereducation.com) are I've come acrossed. If you find any interesting things or have the same feelings as me, please chat with me. Have a nice day!

oh my goodness, dont listen to that doofus about leaving this field... you can handle it.. you just need to chill, breath let it all out. teaching is hard and working with special needs children can be even harder. you need to get to know your children, learn how they absorb information and go from there. i have worked with special needs children for three years. you will never get them to live up to outstanding goals. i find that if you identify the strenghs of each client and then some how fit that in with the way you teach. such as pictures, talking, displaying etc. so when working on funicational skills, when in this activity try to encourage the kids to sound out words, read labels, write what they see as they are reading it. etc. its simple you will be okay.. if you werent freaked out then something would be wrong.. good luck.
