My very first year of teaching, I taught in a private school. For the grammar instruction, they used a Grammar and Composition text that was part of the Abeka homeschooling curricula. I really liked the order and manner they introduced the subject matter. It was also a work-text where the students had the instructional materials and exercises in an easy to use workbook.

I'm now teaching in a public school system. I've searched long and hard for a comparable text but have been unable to find one. The Abeka text uses too much Biblical examples and verses for me to use in this school. If I could find one (homeschool or otherwise) that is similar, I'd be interested in using it for my students. If any of you can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

Hi there. Thank you for your question. It's always nice to see people with true passion for studying, teaching and learning. I really like to see that. To answer your question, I believe the best idea would be to start from here: http://www.fetchbook.info/Language_Arts.html - and moving on slowly and surely from there. Hope you liked my answer, and I think your interest for Language Arts is very inspiring.
