Hello out there!

I am fortunate enough to be moving into a brand new edition of science labs to the building at the high school I teach at. All 4 science teachers have been involved in the designing process.

My question is to anyone out there, is:

If you could design your own DREAM science lab & classroom- what would it look like, what type of furniture would you use (moveable lab tables vs. permanent lab tables), what type of storage would it have?

Any ideas would be appreciated...I teach 9th grade Earth Science, 10th grade Biology, and 11th & 12th Environmental Science.

I am very grateful to be moving out of my current room...which is only lab tables (it used to be part of a full lab/classroom---but a wall was put up in between to construct another classroom).

As far as what I've seen from the floor plan... they will be a lot bigger than what we currently have right now. (although iIm not sure of the total sqaure footage for each room)

I do house quite a few small mammals and would like to put in some aquariums as well...what types of set ups do any of your other science teachers out there have?

Thanks!

I taught in a brand new room, which I thought was perfect! Here's how it worked:

There was a shared hallway that was only accessible by one door located in each of the science teacher's room. It was like a common storage area for chemicals & our desks. We used shelves for the chemicals and cabinets for other supplies.

In the actual classroom, there were free standing, permanent square lab stations. They had a trough sink running down the center of each station. Those were located in the back of the room. In the front were the movable tables that I arranged in a U shape. It was very conducive to group work as well as lectures.

There was storage for general glassware in the classroom in the form of lower & upper cabinets. The upper cabinets were very nice because they had glass windows, which was perfect for decorating!

HTH! :D

P.S. I can send you pics if interested...

Hmmm... moving the moveable tables in a U shape for lecture is a good idea! Thanks!
