I work in a program for middle schoolers with emotional disturbances. I'm a liaison to 9 students and a sped teacher to 5 of those nine students. The five students are all in different grade levels (ranging from 5th-8th) and they come in for various subjects. Most of them are in my room for 2 subjects and in the general ed classroom for 2 subjects. This year, I taught each subject in at least one grade. Grades 5/6 and grades 7/8 have different schedules, so kids filter in and out all day. Next year, more students will require inclusion. My program assistant has done most of the inclusion until now. I'm nervous about balancing teaching with inclusion.
I'm wondering if anyone else has a crazy set-up like this. I'd like to find assignments or projects that allow the kids to learn new material on their own. I hate to do that, but it's a necessity until I can figure out how to clone myself! Anyone have any ideas or resources that could help me?
