Hi Everybody,

have recently found this site - so much stuff...amazing!
I am a teacher in the uk working in schools (age 3-11 years) and also at home where my two sons (12 &13 years) are home educated (older son did reception/kindergarten? year only in school - younger son has never been).
Could someone just explain how the us system works ie. how old are k3 children etc. Are my two high school or middle school age?
thanks! :)

Thanks, Thomas.

When does compulsory schooling finish? Is there an equivalent to uk A-levels (which are voluntary and studied between ages 16-18) which are generally required for degree-level study at college/university?

But by law students in most states must stay in school until they reach the age of 16. At that time, they can drop out if they choose. After grade 12 they reach college university age.

If the student is in special education they can stay in school longer than regular education students. In my state the age is 21 in others it is 24.
