Hi! I am new to this forum :)

I have been working on methods to help students learn their multiplication tables, and have come here seeking constructive criticism.

The page is here: Learn Your Multiplication Tables (http://www.mathsisfun.com/tables.html)

And if you would like to test out the "Math Trainer" (mentioned on the page) and tell me what you think of it, that would be good too.

I have been searching for websites to help my son learn his multiplication tables. I was excited to find a site that told some of the shortcuts for different numbers. I knew there was some but I didn't know them all. My son does so much better if there is some logic behind things. Thanks.

Did you check out QuickMathFacts? It's the download pick of the week on this site. It runs timed tests on any chosen set of math facts. It uses the 12 by 12 table, just like the "Learn your multiplication tables" link, but you can choose specific rows, or a range of rows, to work on. Many teachers find that kids learn math facts best in timed tests, because they enjoy competing with themselves and it motivates them to speed up, which can only be achieved by committing the facts to memory. It saved my son's life in 5th grade when he struggled with long division and fractions because he didn't know his multiplication facts. Using the program, it took him only 3 weeks to learn all his tables. He really went after it and it boosted his confidence in math at school;)

Have you ever heard of Kumon math. It is an international organization that has been helping children for years to become proficient in numeration. It is an asian rote learning method that builds on fundamentals. Most sites work like this. You attend the Kumon centre and do a test; based on speed and accuracy. Then you take home daily sheets of Kumon to do at home timed. You then bring them back and do another test. Your progress is tracked individually and tailored to how well you are doing. My children have done Kumon for 5 years now. My 12 year old is doing grade 10 math, and my 9 year old is doing grade 6-7 math. It is amazing!! The other thing I like about it is that it is not flashy or colourful. It is boring. It teaches children to focus without having to be fed by colour candy on paper.

Hi everyone!
My name is Zeshan, I am part of a crew of indie musicians from Melbourne Australia that put together the Hip Hop Times Tables. We have developed an Audio workbook that takes a child through their first 12 multiplication tables. We provide the kids with tricks, clues and loads of encouragement. The audio book also comes with a visual learning aid. You can hear samples and buy at these places online

I have also found a website to help my daughter learn her math. She has been doing free math exercises on beestar.org. These math exercises are very interesting and she loves them very much! The honor roll makes her work hard, and the email from beestar to me weekly let me know clearly what level is my daughter on. Besides, there are some other exercises like English Language Art, science, etc in beestar. May be you can have a try. Hope it helps you.:D

My kids are using the RocketMath program at school for multiplication and I had a lot of trouble finding practice worksheets apart from the single sheet per set that was coming home. I generated multiple variants of each group for this series plus other conventional ones and posted them here...

My website http://www.geocities.com/multiplicationfacts has some simple drills, online.
The best Times Tables learning tool I've ever seen is found at this link:http://www.bigbrainz.com/index.php?PARTNER=brettstaylor

It is free for the base version which teaches all the facts and is fun for kids to play. It is a video game format and was programmed by a PlayStation game designer.

Go and play with the tables and calculation game on www.dol88.com (http://www.dol88.com)
Very funny and extremely efficient for learning tables. It looks like tetris.

Go and try calculations (http://dol88.free.fr/www/downloads/Operations/operations.zip)

On the same site play with an original mathematic puzzle MATHZZLE

Go and try mathzzle (http://dol88.free.fr/www/downloads/Mathzzle/mathzzle.zip)

My children really appreciate it. Users manuals on site !

Oh, my friend also recommended Beestar to me. She said that her son loves the free math practice so much! Perhaps my daughter should have a try. Besides free math, what do you suggest? Will they charge a lot?

Hi, Lisa, do you mean http://www.beestar.org/index.jsp? Emma has been a member of Beestar for a year, and she is doing free math and GT. She likes it a lot, and seems not to have enough exercise. As she is also interested in friends and community, we are considering the Program of Social Studies, which was added last year. I would like to know how much the programs cost you each semester. Thanks!

Teaching the multiplication table is a great way to teach your students multiplication. A website for math is www.math.com/ and or math.com/! They have all the tools for any math complaint or help you need with any types of math like adding, subtracting, algebra, etc.

I've taught 3rd-5th grade for many years. The simplest way for kids to learn their facts is through a new program called Factivation for Multiplication. All the teaching is done through colorful, kid-friendly videos (EASY for the parent or teacher) and there are several printables to go along with each lesson. Plus, there are only 9 lessons and most have only 3 facts-it's a completely different approach and the times tables and flashcards are obsolete! You can see a video demo at www.factivation.com.

Hi,

I'm an independent editor from France and I develop educational software on my web site (http://www.dol88.com) .
Among them Mathrace a 3D arithmetic race to learn times tables. XP version (http://dol88.free.fr/www/downloads/Mathrace/Mathrace.msi)

Vista version (http://dol88.free.fr/www/downloads/Mathrace/MathraceVista.msi)

http://dol88.free.fr/www/chgr/jeu-fr-mathrace.jpg

All along the race the pilot faces different kinds of arithmetic problems under the form of panels. Without stopping his progression he has to determine the correct answer and to drive towards it.

For even more fun, a double players mode allows to compete simultaneously against another pilot. The level of difficulty can be tuned independently for each player so it is possible to get fair races with players having different arithmetic skills.

All my games are free of charge for schools and are sold less than 2 € for individuals by telephone or SMS.

Try them and if you enjoy tell your friends about them.

Hi, Nancy, my daughter is also using Beestar now. She has registered in free math and reading program. If you want to know the cost of social studies, you must tell which grade your daughter is in and how long she wants to stay in the program. I will ask my friends. They may know it, because their kids have registered using social studies. Stella

If you have a G1 (or other andriod enabled mobile phone), you can download the MathWizard from the andriod market. I did and it helped my 3rd grader learn their multiplication tables. And, also helped my 6th grader brush up on some math facts they hadn't really learned well the first time. It works great in the car on the way to school. I just change the preferences to what they need to learn that day and voila!, they are immediately being prepared for the test of the day!!

The program provides a lot of configuration options. It provides configuration to limit what types of questions get asked. For example, the app can focus on any or all categories of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division questions. You can configure it to ask just multiplication, or just multiplication using 6's, or it even can focus on a specific question like 8 x 7. It provides fun noises for the kids to keep them interested. And, keeps statistics to allow you to see their progress. How fast each question is answered is kept and averaged to give you an idea of how well they know each area (for example, you can see if they are strong on 5's but need more work on their 8's). It also keeps track of missed questions and can just ask those.
