I am reading children's books to music. I am having trouble finding good music to use so that it works with the books. I need it to flow when the story flows. I know I need to fit the book to the music but I can't find any music like that. If anyone knows of any great songs to read along to, please let me know. Also if anybody knows of any great websites that list some of these songs I would appreciate it. I thank anyone for their help.

This may sound really silly, but in the world of ESOL, the music of choice for reading stories to is Baroque music... it probably wont work with SPOT THE DOG, but pretty much anything else... it aids memory a fantastic amount and children and adolecents tend to think it's from a movie or something (I know of one adolecent who was on an ESOL course straight out of young offenders... and he loved it more that hard rap!).
Don't know if this helps... You might also try something mongolian or native american as these styles of music are generally syncopated and undulating and come from societies where oral history is important... so they help.
I'm on the Tibetan plateau as a grade school teacher at the mo, so I'm not sure of exact titles, but I'm sure you can get to a mall pretty easily.

Hi - I have found that, when reading to younger grades, some music with major themes can be, at times, distracting. You might consider using 'nature' sounds cds - rainstorms, wave action, etc., rather than a specific style of classical music. For independent reading, I agree with the previous response - baroque is best.
