Hi,
I'm a new resource room teacher in a K-4 building. I would love to hear from other RR teachers as to how you group and schedule your student's according to their IEP's as well as stratagies that you use with your students. I would appreciate any suggestions or advice.
Thanks in advance,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,
I am a Middle School Resource Room Teacher at a Charter School in Michigan. I work with Special Education students in grades 6-8. One thing I have found in working with my students every hours is I group them by subject area. For example, I have 10 students coming to the RR at 8:20am for different subjects such as English Language Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies. Instead of making myself bonkers over the 4 different subjects I have to teach during the class period, I group all of them for one subject like ELA. The students who come to me at 8:20am come back in the afternoon for another subject. That's when I teach Math with them.

Another strategy I use is a write down IEP Annual Goals and Objectives for each student on my caseload and type a copy of the IEP goals and objectives with the student(s) name under each objective. This enables me to individualize instruction for students, especially when more than 1 student has the same objective. I am able to group my students easier this way.

I hope these suggestions are helpful to you. Have a productive and successful school year!

Hi there.

www.EverythingAboutLearning.com will probably have some books that would help.

I'd put IEP into their search box.

Hi Kathy,
I was actually looking around the internet searching for the same thing. I have been doing this for 5 years but I am always looking to improve it. Here are some suggestions: Each student has a folder and inside I place a sheet with their IEP goals on it. This allows me to have them at my fingertips so then I can consolodate a lesson. It is easier for me because the goals are right there and this also allows me to document how I am addressing each goal. I also have at least one lesson that I teach the students to be indepedent with so that I can work with other students. (I also keep this in their folder) For example, one student will work on learning personal information while I am teaching mini lesson. Hope this was useful and good luck!

Hello,

I'm a young teacher myself, and people like you, who want to help and grow children are my source of power. Thanks a lot and keep up the great work you do. I think that I saw that here - http://www.fetchbook.info/resource_room.html - you have some great books with helpful strategies and important information. :-)
