What do you need to know? I was in Thailand at the time, but experienced no problems. However, my good friends escaped by the skin of their teeth.

A few interesting details:
No animals were drowned because they knew it was going to happen and were on higher ground.
A tribe of water gypsies in Thailand knew to get to higher ground when the tide went way offshore because their ancestors had told them that when the water went out, it would come back, and in just as much force.
Many places did not experience high waves, but the water suddenly rose.

You could certainly teach about the fund raising that's going on, and perhaps initiate a fund raiser at your school.

I subbed for a science class and they were studying tsunami's and earthquakes and tidal waves. The teacher had a wealth of books at the front of class on the subject to help reinforce what she was teaching. Give them the facts. There are TONS of information on tsunami's. Look on the internet as well to read on them to get the facts. I have found if you give them the facts and dont give BS answers then the students respect you more and listen more attentively.

Be sure to walk the classroom as you are giving a lecture. It helps in the listening process.

Yes I do have a few suggestions! Just tell them that this is a very sad and difficult time. If they do things that arent appreciated just tell them they can go to the principals office and learn about the Tsunami in Asia. Another suggestion is to talk about the less violent things. I hope that hepls you a little bit more!
