I will be beginning the school year teaching "Touching Spirit Bear" in my Middle Level Alternative Education class. This will be my second run at the book, and I am looking to add more to what I used last year. I've exhausted all resources on the Internet and thought someone might have some interesting activity ideas, worksheets, quizzes, vocab lists, etc. that have been used with success.
I love this book dearly and want to provide the best opportunity for my students to appreciate the book as I do. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!

I had my lower level students build their own totem poles-- I had one made out of recycled cans-- it was very cool.
I had my students research Circle Justice and you could hold a mock circle justice meeting.

This is a good book to give middle school student the opportunity to annotate. It's also a good book to write a character anaylysis on, through the annotation. I did this last year and was very successful.
The novel also incorporates many literary elements, leaning hard on flashback and symbolism.
