A nifty way to teach kids about the importance of recycling to the environment is by encouraging a cell phone collection campaign within your school. Students, teachers and administrators can collect used cell phones for several months. Contests could be created, providing additional incentive. Along the way, discussions about landfills and other recycling concerns could be injected. This is more fun and interesting than collecting regular household items, and it can even be used as a fundraiser, because working phones can be converted into cash.
The other nice thing about it is that the community at large could be invited to participate, creating a wonderful public relations opportunity for your school! (Not to mention more product that could be converted into cash!)
