I am having such a hard time finding a different job here in CO. Every job that I apply for has over 300 applicants accordng to HR departments. I am told I am over qualified, unqualified... then someone who has no experience gets the job or someone who has 30 years in gets the job. what gives? Is it just my district that is weird or is this happening everywhere?

The entire idea of "teacher shortage" must not be true in Colorado and this makes me understand why so many teachers leave in the first few years, there is no possiblity of moving up!

Have a professional look over your application documents, such as your cover letter and resume. It could be that something there is wrong.

And it could be that you have angered someone politically.

Also, are you only applying to main suburban districts? At every single teach job fair I have been to there have been lines of 100+ people looking for employ with Cherry Creek, Douglas, Denver Public, ect. while the smaller districts are virtually ignored.

I really enjoy hearing people complain about never finding any job opportunites only to discover they are looking at only one very popular district.

May I ask where you are looking for jobs as well? We are thinking of moving from SoCal to Colorado Springs in the next year or 2 and dh is a middle school science teacher. Although some feedback from another forum has indicated there should be many opportunities for middle school teachers in CO, we have also heard that sometimes those from out-of-state are sort of shunned because of where they come from (I realize you are already there). Does this seem to be the case, too? Any other advice you can give us on this topic would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello, I am new to this forum and I am wondering how to find out more information about the teaching job fair you referred to in your post. Is there a website you could send me to?

Thanks for your help!

I have found that Co Springs is very religion-oriented. They want teachers who fit into their mold. (sorry to say it, but I have found that to be the case).

I have applied to Denver, Jeffco, Boulder, Adams 50, Adams 12, Mapleton, Littleton, Cherry Creek, St Vrain and Douglas with no luck for the past 8 years. I know how you feel!

This is a polictically oriented state. If you even get one administrator after you, you cannot find a job anywhere.

We will be moving out of state soon to go to a job in California. Can you believe it, I found a teaching job in Cali before my homestate of Colorado!

Hey, wherever you go , win in your mind before you get to interview regardless of how many applicants. I had similar situation, now when Ileft the district, I always win the next one in my mind and I don't go more than one interview.
