View Full Version : Why the LACK of usernames?

I have been trying to get the "feel" of this site before posting. The one thing that is making it a bit difficult for me is the lack of names for several users. I am noticing that there are a lot of posters with the name "unregistered". Why are some of you shy about registering with a username? It makes it so much easier to reply to someone when you can at least recognize him/her and relate. So, please start using a username other than "unregistered".

I TOTALLY agree!! Perhaps some "unregistered" users feel safer when posting their comments in such an irritating manner. Nothing wrong with an opinion and hearing the other side, as that is expected on a site like this. Some folks just have a less-than-tactful way of going about it. What is up with that?

I have only been on this site for about a week and a half now, and have been frustrated about the same thing. I like being able to address people or recognize people that I might be "chatting" with.

Thanks for bringing that up!

Who are you to tell people what they should do? If people don't feel like registering, it's their right. Those who want to register have the right to do that too. It's a free country and free site.

Uh---I rest my case.

No, I don't think that you do. The ability to confer with either Pen or Anonymous names is a great advantage to users, allowing them to relate ideas that they may be too shy or modest to post on their normal account. You know, I think that I know what your problem is: you can't handle a normal discussion unless you can associate a name. If you at least have a name, you can blame that user for their opinions; you don't have the same luxury with unregistered users.

Why don't you try responding to the ideas, rather than the user?

Yes, my dear person. I do rest my case.......you simply affirm my point with your rudeness. There IS a tactful way to reply to a differing opinion, but perhaps that is too complex for you to understand. Have a lovely week!

Once again, you skip around the topic at hand. Am I rude for pointing out your faults? Rather than answering my point, you choose to blame my opinion on the type of authentication. Very mature.

I can understand someone who posts under their real name complaining, but how much guts does it really take to post under a pseudonym?

This site is supposed to be for questions of academic nature. I see no question being asked here in reference to a classroom technique or the such. Why waste your time in this forum if you have no valid question to ask or technique to share. You're better off going to AOL chatrooms if you want to badger each other.
