Am I screwed or can I do something??

I am a Freshman student in High School and i have below a 1.0 and the 1st semester is almost over...in like 2 months. I was wandering if i can still go to a good college (if college even checks freshman) or a decent one if i get good grades in the next semester like a 3.5 or higher from the 2nd semester on... would that at least get me into a good college? or what else can i do??!

AND DOES HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMAN, COUNT TOWARD COLLEGE? will it affect me a lot?

I have seen a number of students start out poorly and then make a turn around and can away with good results. I had a student last year end up going to Brown University who started out with a 53 overall average for their Freshman year.

Motivation is part of growing up. Get motivated and you'll have no problem getting into a good school. College realize this.

It's not the end of the world, just a wake up call for you.

If you get a 3.5 each semester for the rest of your high school career your average will be over a 3.0.

What it sounds like you need most is steps to success. Many have been their and worse. The question is So what Now what? What are you going to do about it?

Steps for success.

Meet with teachers and develop personal success contracts with them for the remainer of year. See if it is possible to negociate for an incomplete the first semester if you make up all work and succeed the next semester.

Get tutoring help, a mentor, develop a strict schedule for the next year to establish patterns for success.

Develop your vision of you. Napoleon Hill said once, what ever the mind of man can concieve it can achieve to work on your vision and step into now.

Yes, your freshmen grades do count. It will be hard to get your overall average up. However, know that scholarships start with a 3.2 average. Work hard from now on, and your college reps will notice your grades from the bad start to a good ending. They will assume you are still improving and that is the direction you want to go. So... go for it.

College admissions is getting SO competitive, especially in good, private schools. To answer your question--yes, your first semester grades in your freshman year do count. The admissions offices see ALL of your grades from 9-12th. But, your in luck. It's still early for you. There is nothing that colleges love more than to see improvement. All you need to do is have your grades go up on a steady incline through your senior year and you'll be fine. The longer you stay on this track your going, the less of a chance that you'll have on getting into a competitive school or even one of your choice--it's always nice to be able to pick what you want. You said you have two months left in the semester--USE THEM to your advantage to turn your grades around! Your average will not be that good this semester, but it can be better. Don't wait until the end of January to change, but do it now--make your new year's resolution in November this year and have it be to work hard for your grades so you can go to a good school! GOOD LUCK with you major improvement!!!
