Our school district is experimenting with a new alternative assessment report card. I truely believe in the concept. But, the problem is, the committee has taken the Ohio State Standards and simply listed all the indicators for each subject. I have found that this is to difficult for the parents to understand. Is anyone using this idea but has it written in more parent friendly language? Thank you for you help!

Hi,
We used the descripters from Everyday Mathematics (U.of Chicago Math Project) of emerging, developing, secure and independent. Our math section has reasons mathematically, and descriptors for math like numeration, etc. for Language ARtrs we use 2 for reading. one for decoding and one for answering comprehension quesitons. We have for writing, such descriptors as process, content, mechanics, etc.

Get parental help, send some examples home for parent response
I teach music and the best way to make anything user friendly is to keep it as simple as possible and concise. Now you're at "yeah right" but try to explain music even to administrators...goals etc. keep your audience in mind, not the admin's or even yourselves. Hopefully you'll put on a good "show"!
