I'm doing a unit on turtles. I'm looking for some cool craft ideas that use turtles. Does anyone have any ideas to share?

Thanks,

Juiles

I am also doing a small unit on turtles. I am reading several books, and doing several crafts. My two favorite crafts are turtle hats and a turtle tambourine.

The turtle hat is just a green hat. Students can glue a large pompom on the brim of the hat with two google eyes. Four smaller pom poms glued around the hat make arms and legs, and then the hat is decorated with shades of green and brown paint applied with precut sponges to create the pattern on the turtle's shell.

The turtle tambourine is created by gluing precut pieces of green and brown tissue paper to a styrofoam bowl. When the bowl is dry, it is glued to a cardboard template cut into the shape of a turtle with 7-10 beans, beads, popcorn kernals, or other noisemakers underneath. when the bowl and paper dry, the students can use the tambourines to shake out syllables in turtle words, or to follow along with a turtle poem or song.

I hope these help!

To create an easy-to-do, inexpensive turtle craft use a paper plate (any size) and have the kids draw the shell with crayons or markers. Draw and cut pieces from green construction paper for the head, tail and feet. Glue the pieces to the underside of the plate. A paper bowl works well, too.

Here is a unique page that offers a craft for making a paper plate turtle puppet or how to make a turtle out of paper using basic oragami techniques. More information about how turtles affect the art world are included :
