I am a college professor but am thinking of teaching on the high school level; I know I have to take the Praxis tests. I will take them for 7-12 and the subject areas will be either English or Speech Communication (whichever subject as a greater need). I don't have time to go through the ETS literature, which is mainly junk (I know, since I work for ETS ; ), so I'd like a kind person to explain the Praxis I and II. By the way, ETS is very secretive so working for them does not give me any more access to the information.

I reccommend taking the test and look it over well, make mental note of all that you don't know, then study those areas (behavior management, whatever) It is common sense and written coversation to the team assessing you. Sound knowledgeable of the content area and performance standards and throw in special ed criteria. Hit on Mazlow and know some learning methods. Good luck! I took mine three times. Expensive but worth it.

The Praxis tests are straightforward (unlike PSSA). Look over PDE teaching guidelines for your subject and if anything sounds unfamiliar, brush up. It's a thinking person's test, but they aren't that tough. Don't sweat it.
