No paint
No scissors
No glue
These are my restrictions for working with a PDD student. Any ideas for art? We're gonna try play-dough this week but I'm at a loss.
Also any ideas of co-operative games for a junior grade (games that require everyone play) would also be appreciated.

Hi,
these are some ideas i came up with on my last prac in the 0-2 yrs age room, so they may not suit your needs... but here you go anyway...
1. using cheap shaving cream and food colouring just spray it all over the table, they loves the textures and getting every part of their body into it!
2. putting a little washing detergent into water in a tub with a litte food colouring, getting the kids to blow into a straw into the tub and it foams up. then put a peice of paper over the tub... it comes out with amazing patterns.
3. what about clay? its a great alternative to playdough and if possible you can get it in a kilm (sp?) and its something they created and can keep forever.
just a few ideas, i'm sure i have more in my folders but can't think off the top of my head.
hope it helps!

Can you use tape?
Have the student draw an outline (or provide a predrawn outline) on a piece of paper. Then, have the student tear construction paper into odd or regular shapes by hand. The student should then tape the torn pieces within the outline. The tape could be put over the pieces or rolled and put behind the pieces. Some ideas for outlines would be: plants/trees, fruits/veggies, landscapes, faces, pets, etc. You name it. Get creative.

You could try things like tearing the paper into different shapes and laying them out on the paper. Once they are on the paper lay over some clear mac tac or shelf paper. You can do it for any ability because the child can just put scraps on but you can also put them in a pattern, try and create shapes, and have them make visual representations of things like trees, houses etc. Have fun.

How about threading beads....you can use multiple sizes of bead and thread.
You can also create morrocas (get som pinto beans, a coffe can, piece of paper to tape around the can that the student can design with crayons, coffe can lid, tape)
Making musical instuments is usually easy and mess free. there should be a lot of resources on the web if you just google it.

Use a layer of sand to create shapes or letters in.
