We've just upgraded the lab to 30 new machines all with XP Pro and it is even worse than Windows 98.
The problem is that at 'Guest' level the students don't have enough access but at 'administrator' level they have the power to wreck the computer setup.

Why didn't useless Microsoft put a proper permissions system in, like Unix has?
This is a nightmare!

Not only that but XP only allows 5 users to connect. Can anyone recommend a simple server system? I have tried Open AFS but can't quite get it to work.

We use windows 2002. I got to tell you, it's a huge improvement over 98 and the middle school is trying XP and having the same diasters you are.

this website here:

has a program that you can choose what students can do on the computer! It works great! But to completely use it, you have to buy it!

Try it out, let me know what you think! :)
