Japan e-mail communication

I am a "pre-student teacher" and I am doing a lesson on Japan. I wanted to include an "e-mail" communication with Japanese students. I checked out epals.com, but it cost $7.00 per student. I am not making money yet, and that is too high. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
