The world leaders should concentrate there minds on preventing an intergalactic asteroid attack on Earth.
We narrowly missed an assault a couple of years ago. It was by pure luck we escaped it, without the loss of life. Next time we may not be so lucky, as an asteroid or meteor could hit Earth, cause so much devestation that so many dust and debris particles fill the Earth's atmosphere and stratosphere and cause a nuclear winter, meaning the Sun's rays would not be able to penetrate the thick atmosphere and leave Earth without heat and barely any light, we would see mankind and humanity wiped from the face of the Earth.
So what does one ask? An incoming asteroid could be knocked off course if they struck the asteriod at the precise point with a few Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles. Or we could send astronauts to plant some high velocity bombs on the asteroids surface and destroy it that way. Keep in mind though, if any of these theories breaks down, we could see the meteor or asteriod blow up and the remaining particles would rain down on Earth in a meteor shower, causing a very high loss of life.
Another suggestion is that the Earth could be hit off orbit around the Sun. Earth's climate would change enormously, if it was hit far enough out, we could see temperatures around June/July being -150ºC. This is so cold below freezing point, states of matter would be frozen instantly, the only orginisms who would survive such an onslaught would be microscopical lifeforms.
I hope I have made a valid point and my facts are taken into consideration.
