hello,

I have a friend who is going into teaching and was wondering if anyone had any advice for her.

What can she expect in her first year?
What is something she should know that would help her greatly?
Is there something you found out that you wish you knew your first year?

What are some common rookie mistakes?

Thank you

Rookie mistakes? Hmmm...

Calling on raised hands.
Reviewing too much.
Testing too much.
Giving out homework that wasn't taught.
Not teaching grade level content.
Assuming kids already know the content.
Letting kids choose the content.
Assuming kids can't do it.
Turning control of the classroom over to the kids.
Relying on activities to teach the content.
Relying on kids to teach each other.

At least, in my opinion.
