I am a British, PhD qualified chemistry teacher with almost 2 years teaching experience and 4 years industrial experience. I spent 2 years studying in California (1998-2000) and would love to return to the US to teach chemistry at high school level. I have spent a lot of time researching the requirements for different states and school districts, but meeting all of the requirements and the application process seems so complicated, almost impossible for someone living abroad. This is such a shame as everywhere I look, I read that chemistry teachers are in short supply (they are here too).

Has anyone worked with foreign trained, non-US teachers who have obtained jobs, moved to the US and gained their credentials etc

Your comments and insights are most appreciated.

Hi there. You are right, good science teachers are in short supply. Try the independent schools via NAIS (Nat'l Assoc. of Indep. schools). Also try Carney & Sandoe, an employment agency(with no fee to teachers) that specializes in independent schools. (Use google or another search engine to find websites) Visas, etc. are difficult but not impossible to obtain. Good luck with your search!

Polk County Florida is always needing teachers, and they have to pay you according to experience.

You can go to the school directly and ask for a position. You have to speak with the principal. They give you all the information.

And you go from there.

God Bless you as you aim to teach our children.
