Teachers and Students Who Explore Their Local History Can Win Up to $5,000 through the Save Our History National Honors!
The Save Our History National Honors recognizes those elementary, middle, and high school teachers and students who have made an effort to explore, document, or preserve the history of their local communities this year.
Teachers who creatively used local history to supplement their social studies or American History curricula can win one of 24 $1,000 cash prizes. One teacher will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a free trip to Washington, D.C., where he/she will be recognized as the Save Our History Teacher of the Year at the Save Our History National Honors Event in May 2006. EVERY teacher who submits an application for the National Honors will receive a DVD from The History Channel.
Students who have worked on an in-class or extracurricular local history project, a history-themed service-learning project, or a history-related independent or youth group volunteer project are also eligible to win up to $5,000 in scholarships from The History Channel.
The deadline for submitting an entry for the Save Our History National Honors is April 7th, 2006. Teachers and students can download the Official Entry Form, Project Criteria, and Official Rules at http://www.saveourhistory.com/awards/get_involved.html.
