I have a dilemma.
I am interested in taking on the challenge of working in an underserved high school and I am looking primarily in the Chicago Public Schools (there is a special program to get me certified there quickly). I have briefly looked around the area (I am from southwest suburban Chicago originally) and am finding the area to be quite a bit pricier from the time I left for college 10 years ago. Since I need to relocate, does anyone know of an affordable place to live that would be near enough to make it to class on time in the mornings? I have a family of 4 (2 small children) and getting up at 5AM takes a toll on me when I want to spend time in the late afternoon/evening with them. I have been doing this in Boston, and I am pretty sick of the fatigue and the affect on my ability to teach by the end of the year. If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be very helpful.
Thanks
Michael
