Hi!
I am a grad student researching functional behavioral assessments as a final project in a course focusing on children with special needs. As part of the assignment I need to get a brief description from a teacher who has implemented this technique in the classroom. If there is anyone who has, I was just wondering, if you found it helpful in the classroom, what was it like to implement and was it successful. I would truly appreciate any feedback! Thanks!!!!!!

I use FBA on a regular basis. Most of the students that are assisgned to my room have been suspended on are placed their as a part of the manifestation. Always rememer that it is "not" the behavior, but the "function" of the behavior. Using a FBA will determine what that function is. In my classroom we do a FBA and a BIP on each student and on each staff. The staff needs to be aware that their/our behavior can cause/eliminate many of the behaviors that we see on a regular basis. Their are many forms available to use and document behavior. Just remember that behavior is a means of communication and we as educators need to now the language that is being spoken.

"Why Johnny Doesn't Behave" by Barbara Bateman and Annemieke Golly will answer all your questions re FBA and BIP. Great book!
