I was just wondering if anyone came across a book that they felt was essential to grade 3-4 students? I'm trying to come up with ideas for this summer's list.
Many Thanks,
Jake

I used this book with my students this year and it was a wonderful experience for us all. The students really enjoyed it.

Because of Winn Dixie is a wonderful and heart warming story about a girl and a stay dog that she saves from the parking lot of a grocery store, hence the title.

Hi Jake! In response to your summer reading question for students in 3-4th grade, I don't have any specific books in mind, but I wanted to direct you to a great website. www.bookadventure.com
This site is for k-8th grade and you can create individual reading lists based on interests. Each student can register and take comprehension quizzes on line. There are 6,000 titles on this website.

I came across this web site that lists many, many novels and gives their reading levels. It does take a few moments to load because of all the books so please be patient. You may find it quite useful. Sorry the URL is so long.

Hi Jake!
I suggest A CRICKET IN TIMES SQUARE and its sequel,
TUCKER'S COUNTRYSIDE. THEY ARE BOTH FUNNY, AND THE
ODD RELATIONSHIPS IN THE STORY ARE HEARTWARMING.
There is also a video you can get of the first story which just
enables you to imagine the music in the story even more1

Hi...
I would like to suggest 'The Sea Shack' by Mark McNulty. This book was terrific and it was enjoyed by everyone in our family. It was refreshing to find a book that offers value lessons and a pleasant story line with believable characters. You can learn more about the book and author by visiting http://www.theseashack.com/
Anyway, 'The Sea Shack' is abpout a young boy from Marshfield Massachusetts who must reluctantly spend his summer vacation with his grandfather in Truro, Massachusetts. He doesn't know his grandfather very well and it's inspiring to see the 2 main characters develop their relationship. You will enjoy this book.
