:) I teach in southern Ca. and I am interested in trying to have my class establish pen pals .I tried to get them interested in international names and addresses .All my students are Hispanic and are in transition from Spanish to English.They can write and speak in English but their spelling is weak and their writing structures are very weak(more work for their teacher) but I would love to work with you and your class to get this project going .At present I have 23 students but that will change when the migrant students return northern Ca.As you experiance some students will not like to participate
but a twist of the arms my help that decision.................
P>S> we live in the desert,we could have the children relate at start of this project the difference of environments.Also because they are Hispanic they could write about their Mexican culture,customs, etc..

I teach in a ESL school in southern Ca .All my student are Hispanic >I tried to get them interested in pen pals internationally =no hope ,But I may be able to sell them to write to U>S> students especially since they do not have to pay any thing as they would have for the international names and address.My students are 4 th grade level and are in transition from Spanish language to English language.(THEN CAN WRITE IN ENGLISH)Their writing abilities are not on normal 4 th grade level and their spelling is not very proficient.(extra work for the teacher)but I would love to have my kids try this out

I've been looking some time for pen pals for the Sixth Grade (11-12 year old) kids I teach in South Africa. There are 5 classes of aproximately 30 kids. All kids are fairly fluent in English. The school is set in a small sea-side town. The socio-economic conditions are middle to low. There is a varied cultural mix with an equal share of black and white kids with a small coloured and Indian minority.

I would love to connect up some classes and hopefully all classes with other classes from around the world.

Please remember that SA is different from the rest of Africa - we don't have wild life roaming our streets. Most of the larger cities are comparible to those I've seen in certain parts of Europe. The standard of living is generally okay among the middle and upper classes.
