Help-gr 1 teacher with questions

Help-so many questions-but here are two-please give lots of detail with ideas:
THere are words where the words do not follow the phonetic rules and I want to put them in 'jail'-but having trouble thinking of words-is there a list appropriate for this grade? i.e. the, is

I also have such a range of kids -one is reading at gr4 level-some are above grade level-some are at the appropriate level and there are some that are very low- how do I cope-with keeping up with kids that need the help but always challenging the higher kids and this one student that is gifted!

Ask high-order Bloom questions, tell the students you will pick on someone at random... then after waiting sufficiently long go ahead and call on volunteers.

GATE kids want to answer tough questions, so ask these questions. But make it so that every kid is trying to come up with an answer.
