Does anybody have any suggestions for picture books to read the first days of school?!?! I want to go and buy some at borders this weekend but I need help with ideas!

I read First Day Jitters, by Julie Danneberg and Thank You Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco to my fourth graders in the beginning of the year.

Get a book that has already been published. That's the best way to go about it. Make sure you read out loud and don't let them see the pictures. Make them have to guess what everything looks like. You could make the kids read the books so they know they can't read and that will be a great attention getter by telling them that they can't read and that's your job to make them read that book.

Very interesting. I have never thought to make the kids see they can't read. That will open up their eyes!
